“Connect” – September 30
“Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” Mark 9:50
This verse from Sunday’s Gospel reading might seem like an odd choice to pair with the word “connect.” What we are seeking to connect with are the people who have been invited and welcomed into the faith community of St. James’. We might begin by asking ourselves: “As salt can both bring out the flavor of food and act as a preservative, how can new members add some spice and seasoning to the congregation?” It is about being open to honor and include each person, not with the intent of making them ‘fit in’ to the way we do things, but to be enriched by the diversity of gifts and insights that God has bestowed upon his children.
