“Invite” – Sunday, September 16, 2018
Readers of my weekly Word might have noticed that I regularly choose a word that appears in the Gospel reading for the upcoming Sunday. This week I diverge from that practice and instead offer the word Invite. My reason is twofold: Christians are invited to know God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and in the assurance of the relationship to reach out and invite others to know him as well. Quite simply, this is what spreading the Good News is all about.
This Sunday, I will begin three successive weeks of preaching on the topics of Invite, Welcome, and Connect – the theme of the conference to be held in October (see notice below). This is to prepare us all for the evangelism initiative of the Episcopal Church in Delaware that is focused around these three areas, and which parishioners of every congregation will hopefully embrace so that the love of God might touch more and more lives.
Jesus asked his disciples, ”Who do people say that I am?” Can we answer that question in a way that might be an invitation to others to come and see for themselves?
